High Protein Choc Nut Porridge (paleo, gluten free, vegan)


During the winter months I love nothing more than a hot bowl of porridge for breakfast. Currently however my husband and I are eating Primal/Paleo style (no grains including oats, no sugar – lots of good fats, veg, nuts & quality meat). Thankfully I came across this post on the blog Elana’s Pantry.  Porridge that’s paleo friendly, making it gluten-free too… hurrah! And it’s super quick to do too, no cooking.

So here’s my take on Elana’s recipe, I fancied turning it into a chocolate porridge and I wasn’t dissapointed. Also the apricots add a lovely sweetness. I know we are always told that a bowl of Oats is the perfect way to start the day, but with this nut porridge you are getting loads more protein, good fats, and other nutrients and minerals lacking in Oats and other cereals. Plus, it will keep you full for ages, try it out.

Choc Nut Porridge

Makes 1 filling portion


  • 3 dried apricots
  • 2 Tbsp dessicated coconut
  • 1 Tbsp pistachio nuts
  • Small handful of almonds
  • 1/2 Tbsp flax seeds
  • 1 tsp coa powder
  • 1/2 tsp Stevia or honey (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until fine, or leave a bit more coarse if you prefer some crunch. If you don’t have a blender/chopper then

you can finely chop the apricots and chop up the nuts as fine as you can.

Place in a bowl. I like to add about 2 or three tablespoons of coconut milk on the top for more creaminess, and then I add boiling water from the kettle until it’s the consistency that I like my porridge (around 1/2 cup).
